Dan Gaspar: The goalkeeping guru who shaped world football
Dan Gaspar is a name that not everyone may recognise, but in the world of football he is a legend. As one of the world's most respected goalkeeping coaches, this Portuguese-American has shaped the careers of some of the biggest names in the world's biggest sport. With a career spanning over 25 years, Gaspar has made his mark on everything from top European clubs to international teams.
Gaspar's journey began in the United States, where he was a talented goalkeeper himself. But it was as a coach that he would reach the very top of the world. His philosophy is based on a deep understanding of the unique role of the goalkeeper - a blend of technical brilliance, mental strength and tactical know-how.
This expertise made him a key member of the team around the famous coach Carlos Queiroz, where together they worked with the Portuguese national team and in clubs such as Sporting CP and Japanese Nagoya Grampus.
During his time at FC Porto (2004-2005), he coached the iconic Vítor Baía, who, under Gaspar's tutelage, was named Europe's best goalkeeper by UEFA.
He has also been a key part of Iran's national team and coached in major tournaments such as European Football Championship.
